Yankl and the Beanstalk is the Jewish pantomime you’ve been waiting for.

Yankl and the Beanstalk takes audiences to the Jewish immigrant communities of East London in the 1890s, into the Daisy Pickle workshop. Our protagonist Yankl finds himself in a bit of a pickle as his cousin Milly wants them to go on strike against the greedy Lady Mayfair and Giant. With his Bar Mitzva just days away, Yankl needs to work on his parasha, help his cousin try to improve their working conditions, and not get in a pickle, all while his lustful mother is looking for someone new to be her date. With the help of some magic beans, a pickle fairy, and some popular songs translated into Yiddish, this duo will find a way to stop the Giant and seize the means of production.

Yankl will be performed twice at the festival, once for an all-ages audience and once for adults only. This hilariously queer Jewish panto is a saucy delight, full of jokes that will delight everyone.

Back in 2022, Tamara Micner introduced Chutzpah! audiences to her new work, Yankl and Der Beanstalk. This workshop presentation gave Tamara the chance to present a work-in-progress and receive feedback on the piece. Now that the work is complete, Chutzpah! is excited to be presenting Tamara and her team.
