Choreographer May Zarhy brings Kristin, a choreographic sketch made of a series of physical positions, to Vancouver for its North American premiere. This piece explores the relationship between memory and movement, seeking out how it is driven by dealing with forces that only become visible through the dancing.
Created in collaboration with dancer Amit Zaretsky, this performance is presented in a unique format: solo, conversation, and solo presented for a second time.
This format, devised by visual artists Ruth Anderwald and Leonhard Grond is called Hasenherz, was appropriated by musician Arnold Schönberg. Schönberg would play a piece of contemporary music, discuss it with the artist and audience, and then present another performance of the same piece. By experiencing a piece twice with a discussion in the middle, new things are revealed, and fresh insights are found.
